About Me
I am American by birth. Before becoming a psychotherapist, I had a variety of work experiences. These included teaching English in Greece, working as a circulation manager in a busy publishing house in Chicago, employment as a plasterer and bricklayer in London’s East End, and a period living in a Buddhist meditation community. I have been a practising psychotherapist for over thirty-five years.
My life long psychotherapeutic inspiration has been the work of Carl Jung and his followers. My training in psychoanalytic and humanistic perspectives with the Institute of Psychotherapy and Social Studies added to this. I hold a diploma in psychotherapy with the IPSS. I am an accredited psychotherapist member of the UK Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners and I am a registered member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy. I hold an M.A. in Counselling from Hertfordshire University. I am also a member of the International Association for Jungian Studies.
My professional career has included an ongoing private practice with individuals and couples, several years working as a university student counsellor, working as a staff mediator with the NHS, and a number of years as a psychotherapist in a busy East London GP practice.
My experience as a supervisor of other practitioners includes private practice, four years supervising groups of other practitioners at the Horsham Counselling Service, and supervising students on three university level counsellor training courses. For two years I supervised the counselling services provided by the Penwith Community Development Trust.
I was for four years a senior lecturer and the course director of the University of Chichester’s counsellor training diploma. Other professional activities have included chairing the national accreditation committee of the UKAHPP and writing over a dozen published articles on aspects of psychotherapy. I have run many public workshops on dream work, working psychologically with physical symptoms and the psychology of the environment. I am an Honorary Fellow of Plymouth and Exeter Universities and a consultant lecturer at the Peninsula College of Medicine. My book The Snake in the Clinic: Psychotherapy's Role in Medicine and Healing is published by Karnac Books.
